Full circle: an ethic of complete participation
Exuberant Animal is characterized by a full-participation ethic, similar to that found in martial art culture. That is, we require total presence and attention for the entirety of our classes and events.
This commitment demonstrates respect for one another and for the process as a whole. It also contributes to safety.
Exuberant Animal events are all conducted by a simple rule for participation: “It’s all mandatory and it’s all optional.”
This means two things. First, all participants are required to be on-time and completely present for all scheduled group activities. No participant will be allowed to arrive late or leave early. In addition, complete presence and attention is required in all sessions.
At the same time, participants are expected to exercise judgment in their physical movement and exertion. Participants may modify or adjust games and movements as necessary to work around pain, fear or fatigue. Participants may also choose to sit out of particular games and movements, but must remain attentive and present with the group and the process. Do not ask to leave a session unless it is a genuine emergency.
Full participation makes Exuberant Animal events special and distinctive. Please respect this culture and do not ask for exceptions. Make your travel arrangements well in advance so that you arrive on-time and are prepared to stay for the duration.
By immersing yourself completely in the process, you’ll find more community, more satisfaction and more exuberance.
